Dr. Iliana Christodoulou-Varotsi is a highly regarded legal consultant and shipping industry educator and trainer specialised in Maritime and EU law and policies. Member of the Athens Bar Association and accredited mediator. In her capacity as an external consultant, she has provided expertise (law drafting) to the Republic of Cyprus in view of the accession of Cyprus to the EU and for the ratification of ILO MLC 2006. Consulting services in the frame of various EU projects in critical areas in shipping and beyond shipping, including the assessment of domestic legislations (completeness, conformity, reporting). Course Leader with Lloyd’s Maritime Academy, the world’s largest provider for professional development for maritime professionals, where she designs and delivers long distance and in-corporate courses worldwide to shipping companies, banks, shipyards, and naval personnel. External trainer with DNV Maritime Academy Hellas (ILO MLC). Visiting lecturer at ALBA Graduate Business School American College of Greece. Honorary Visiting Fellow, Institute of Maritime Law, University of Southampton. Author of numerous articles in international journals, and of five books with international publishers, including Springer (Germany) and Informa (UK). Dr. Iliana holds all her degrees, including her PhD with the highest distinction, from Paris Sorbonne University. Post-doctoral experience with the Scandinavian Institute of Maritime Law on maritime safety policies of the EU and the US. She approaches law from a multi-disciplinary stance, where she integrates industry best practice and places the focus on the human element.
